-
Make sure you have a good idea about how far are you prepared to travel and for how long. Look through the latest golf magazines; surf the web; talk to other golfers. Blue Sky thinking might work better when you can step out from the hotel directly on to the golf course.
-
Use the skills and knowledge of a specialist golf tour operator. They will have visited the areas you are interested in, know the resorts in depth and will have played many of the courses. They will have organised many golf trips, so use their expertise.
-
-
Think about when you want to go. The best and most prestigious courses will need to be booked well in advance and a golf resort will need plenty of notice if it is a large group.
-
Choose a resort that will cater for any non-golfers in the group. Are Spa and fitness facilities available or other sports activities? Is it close to the beach or town?
-
Think about what other facilities your group will require. Do you need the facilities of a meeting room and IT equipment for your strategic planning meetings? Will you want a private dining room?
-
You won't necessarily need to take golf equipment with you. Clubs and balls can be hired at most courses. You will, however, need to advise your party to take golf shoes with soft spikes and polo shirts with long shorts or comfortable trousers.
-
Make sure everyone in the group who wants to play golf has a handicap certificate - most golf courses require one.
-
Decide how many rounds you will want to play during your trip. It is good to have some time away from the course.
-
Ensure that the group all travel on the same day and that you meet up at the destination airport. It is easier to organise and to maintain control! Coach transfers to and from the airport and the courses are preferable for a large group. You may prefer to hire a minibus or cars if the group is smaller.
-
Most importantly, relax and let a golf tour operator do all the organising for you. You might even find time for a few practice shots before you go!
